Education Services

Bethany for Children & Families offers an array of community services to youth, parents, and the community that are designed to help youth enhance self esteem, strengthen communication skills, and develop responsible decision-making skills in an effort to prevent or reduce risky behaviors. Some of the programs offered may be a one-time presentation, a week-long class, or a year long program.

Know What To Say
This is an educational service which provides parents and school or agency staff members with informational workshops and/or trainings designed to help children/students postpone early sexual activity and avoid teen pregnancy and its ramifications. It is usually a 90-minute presentation.

Learn About Me
This intense, five day, self-awareness program addresses self-esteem, communication, decision-making skills, peer pressure resistance, internet safety, sexuality, and consequences of early sexual activity. This class provides an opportunity for students to ask questions and to attain accurate information on sex and its consequences. An emphasis is placed on abstinence being the only safe sex, but contraception is discussed.

Sex and Its Consequences
This educational session provides information to youth and adults regarding the consequences of early sexual activity. The group has a lively discussion regarding pregnancy, STDs, reputation, self-respect, and emotional trauma. There are also role play opportunities within the session. The presentation could be adjusted according to available class period.

Boys-to-Men
The Boys-to-Men program is designed to teach high school males to become responsible men by raising their self-esteem; promoting self-sufficiency; developing positive and healthy relationships; and improving school attendance, behavior, and academic performance. This program runs for approximately 18 sessions.

Survival
Survival is a two-year long course for middle school aged youth that provides group-based services that are designed to facilitate interpersonal relationships; improve physical, mental, and academic functioning; enhance decision making capacity; and develop the ability to implement positive life-choices.

Wings to Fly
This program, approximately 18 sessions long, is designed to teach young high school females how to become responsible women by raising self esteem; promoting self-sufficiency; developing positive and healthy relationships; and improving school attendance, behavior, and academic performance.

Non-Profit Capacity Building
This non-profit capacity building service sponsored by the White House and the Department of Health and Human Services offers area 501(c)3 organizations quarterly training, one-on-one consultation, and financial incentives over a three year period in order to sustain youth-serving agencies and faith-based organizations.
